Apprentice Accounts Assistant

I joined the Group in June 2017 on an AAT apprenticeship. I enjoy working at Henry Boot because the community is friendly and inviting. Everyone will say hello to you, whether that’s the people you are working with or people you see around. Everyone has a smile on their face and will make conversation with you.  Also, everyone is very supportive and helpful. I have found that everyone genuinely wants you to succeed and be the best version of yourself, everyone is willing to help if you get stuck. I think the key thing that I have learnt from working at Henry Boot is not to be afraid to ask for help whether it is regarding work or my course. People will take the time out and help you. They will give you as much help as they can and take time to help you understand why and not just what to do about it.

Tom Brady Trainee Planner

Tom Brady

Trainee Planner

In 2016, I was fortunately offered a position with Henry Boot Construction to undertake the position as Trainee Planner. During my time at Henry Boot, I’ve gained valuable experience and opportunities which have broadened my knowledge of the whole construction process from pre-construction to handover. From the experience, I’ve found myself with various responsibilities which have included design coordinating, programming, weekly / monthly reporting and many other duties, which makes my job more satisfying.

After successfully completing my extended diploma in construction (Level 3) and being offered the position at Henry Boot, I developed my education studies onto a Higher National Certificate in construction (Level 4) which I’ve recently completed. In January 2018, I was offered a conditional offer at Sheffield Hallam University, to study Construction Project Management part-time which will commence from September 18.

I’ve enjoyed my time working with Henry Boot as they offer high amounts of opportunities to develop my construction knowledge, which therefore supports forging my career. Having opportunities of courses and different experiences makes the job worthwhile and enjoyable as I’m undertaking something new daily. Being at Henry Boot made me realise you never overcome challenges / tasks alone, which has taught me the company is collaborative.

Lydia McGuinness Trainee Site Manager

Lydia McGuinness

Trainee Site Manager

I joined Henry Boot Construction in September 2015 at the age of 18 to undertake the role as a Trainee Technician. In my first year, I was given the opportunity to experience the different roles in construction. I shadowed and worked with site managers, planners, quantity surveyors and engineers. I am actively involved in all day to day activities on site, including site inductions, organising and liaising with subcontractors on site, client and design team meetings, organising site folders and writing up the daily diary. After my first year with the company, I felt that my skill set would be better suited to a site management role, so moved into my current role as Trainee Site Manager.

I have successfully completed a HNC in Construction and the Built Environment and is currently studying a part time BHS Honors Degree in Construction Project Management at Sheffield Hallam University.

I love working at Henry Boot because it is one big family, my colleagues support me and care about my professional growth. Every day is different and I enjoy being part of a team and knowing that a different and new project lies ahead.

Within my time at the company the key thing I have learnt is to take every opportunity that you get given. I am lucky that Henry Boot have given me a lot of opportunities within the business to learn and gain new experiences, all of which have allowed me to mature and flourish
