Connecting east and west as part of the Trans-European Road Network.
We use our logistics expertise to operate and maintain the A69 trunk road between Carlisle and Newcastle. Our 30-year contract was one of the first awarded via the Government’s Private Finance Initiative. Highways England continually monitors our performance to ensure the A69 is well maintained, safe and reliable – essential for this major east-west route serving the north-east of England.
The A69 is an important link in the UK’s strategic road network, connecting the industrial areas of the north-east and Teesside with the north-west, the west of Scotland and, via the west coast ports, Ireland. It’s also a route to the Lake District for holiday traffic and is a designated a part of the Trans-European Road Network.
