Case Study
Georgina Ronksley, Management Surveyor
After completing sixth form, and spending a six-month ski season in France, I applied for a property position at HBD. My initial role was a mixture of administrative tasks and property management, here I found a real interest property management. I was then given the opportunity to complete a degree apprenticeship at the University of Salford, studying Real Estate Surveying (Asset Management).
I was buzzing.
The course was over three years, of which I spent one day a week at university. At times, I found it a challenge to balance my studies and workload but I had a lot of support from the wider HBD team – they always wanted me to do well and encouraged me to push myself.
I was still able to embrace the student experience, whilst making steps in my career and earning a full time wage – I felt it was the best of both worlds. Doing an apprenticeship was a great way to connect with others who were going through the same experience and I’ve developed a great network of colleagues and friends.
Since graduating, I have become a Chartered Surveyor and continue to actively promote apprenticeships in schools and colleges as an Apprenticeship Ambassador.
For those considering the apprenticeship route, I’d recommend it - doing an apprenticeship was one of the best things I’ve ever done! As long as you are organised and dedicated, it’s a brilliant opportunity.
