We are fully committed to sustainable development.
We have a responsibility to protect and enhance the environment by reducing our environmental impact, waste and use of resources.
Guided by our net zero carbon framework and by UN Sustainable Development Goals, we’re ambitious about what we can achieve. We’re on course to achieve net zero carbon for our direct greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2030 – in 2023, for example, our direct GHG emissions were down 14%, our gas usage by 39% and electricity by 23% (when compared to our 2019 baseline).
We aim to divert 99% of avoidable waste from landfill on our own construction sites, while our HGV fleet is fully EUR06 compliant. We also actively conserve and enhance local environments, biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Elsewhere, we work with the UK Green Building Council and Yorkshire Climate Action Coalition on climate change adaptation, while our group climate forum reports back to senior leaders – to challenge and then bring about the change we’re committed to.
